Wood Innovation and Design Centre – ENR 2015 Global Best Projects Award of Merit in the Education / Research

Highlights of the WIDC project include the use of wood as an alternative to concrete or steel – considered ‘dry construction’ design; the use of a mix of natural cedar and charred cedar (charring wood cladding is a centuries old Japanese technique) for the exterior; and an energy-efficient design that reduced energy costs by 49%, achieving the highest possible number of LEED points for that category.
