York Region Projects Win Public Works Project of the Year Awards
MMM Group is proud to have been involved in two York Region projects that were recently recognized by the Ontario Public Works Association (OWPA); receiving two separate Public Works Project of the Year awards.
The York Region Rapid Transit Corporation’s VivaNext Highway 7 East (H3) BRT Dedicated Lanes Project received the Transportation, Greater than $50M Category . The category includes public works projects such as roads, bridges, and mass transit. MMM was engaged as Owner’s Engineer, providing project management, strategic planning, design coordination and review, and oversight of the construction and environmental programs.
The York Region Emergency Repair of Bayview Pumping Station West Watermain Project received the Disaster / Emergency Construction / Repair award in the $2M-$10M Category. The award recognizes projects involving techniques and timing for safety, community relations, environmental protection, and adverse conditions. MMM provided inspection of failure location and account of conditions then assisted with the design of the emergency field repair.
The OWPA awards acknowledges the alliances among managing agencies, consultants, architects, engineers, and contractors that work together to deliver public works projects. They are presented in three divisions, from five categories. Projects are selected based on good construction management techniques and on-schedule completion, safety performance, community relations, environmental protection, and unusual accomplishments under adverse conditions.
The Project of the Year Awards will be officially presented to York Region at the OPWA Annual Conference & Awards Luncheon, on Thursday, January 30th 2014, in Mississauga, Ontario.
