On October 19th, a grand opening ceremony was held for the Brantford Walk of Fame.
Several city leaders, including Mayor Chris Friel, cut the ribbon to officially open the new monument structure and featured space in Gore Park. MMM Group’s Amanda Gebhardt, the project manager and lead landscape architect on the project, was in attendance for the ceremony.
The City of Brantford retained MMM Group in 2008 to develop a new format and dedication place for the commemoration of distinguished citizens of Brantford and Brant County, with the goal of transforming the pre-existing walking circuit of inductee stations into a concentrated urban node setting. The firm’s responsibilities included conceptual design, public consultation, landscape and structural detailed design, and contract administration.
MMM completed visioning sessions with City of Brantford staff and community representatives to develop a conceptual site layout, mounting surface, and new plaque format. The resulting design features two concave concrete walls with linear panels of glass offset mounted with a backdrop of a textured ‘river’ pattern emulating the flow of the culture and history created by the featured individuals in the past and continuing into the future. Site layout and features are oriented to frame views of adjacent monuments and allow street views into the central gathering space.
