Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 18: Cycling Facilities was recently selected by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Toronto Section for its 2014 Project of the Year Award.
MMM was retained by the Ontario Traffic Council (OTC) to develop the province’s primary reference document on bicycle facilities. The project included a review of recent studies and policies relevant to bicycle facilities across North America and internationally to identify best practices.
The outcome was the development of a comprehensive set of guidelines that serve as a resource for municipalities, providing practical guidance on the planning, design, and operation of cycling facilities in Ontario. In announcing the award, ITE Toronto noted that “the project is contributing to the development of truly multi-modal transportation networks across Ontario and beyond”.
The ITE Toronto Project of the Year Award annually recognizes a significant contribution in the field of transportation engineering from the Toronto Section Area. OTM Book 18: Cycling Facilities was selected by the ITE Toronto judges for best meeting the criteria of adding to the state of the practice through demonstrating excellence and innovation in the field of transportation.
