The expansion of Edmonton International Airport (EIA) continues to receive high praise, as the Combined Office / Control Tower aspect of the project was recently selected for the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) Showcase Gala Awards 2015 Award of Excellence in Building Engineering.
An integral part of the airport’s $800M expansion 2012 program, the combined tower houses a modern NAV Canada air traffic control tower, an expanded retail precinct, and provides new administrative offices. In the award announcement, the CEA judges commented that it is “a challenging and innovative project resulting in a functional facility and a striking icon for the region“.
As project manager, MMM oversaw the expansion of EIA, and was responsible for program management and related infrastructure development – including the Combined Office / Control Tower. Involving highly complex engineering design, the expansion required project management and coordination for a variety of innovative technologies, challenging systems, and extensive technical and legal requirements.
Held annually, the CEA Showcase Gala Awards recognize the best projects in Alberta. This is the second year in a row that the EIA expansion has been honoured by the awards program, as it previously received a 2014 Award of Merit in Project Management.
