Urban Design

As a multidisciplinary consulting firm, our goal is to create balanced, effective, and appealing places to live, work, and play – and to do so with plans, policies, and processes that are thoughtful, socially aware, economically sustainable, ecologically sensitive, and backed by rigorous analysis.

We bring together aesthetic and social requirements, infrastructure needs, and practical implementation to create enduring and resilient public and private spaces. We consider the principles of ‘place-making’ and physical form that shape our urban spaces, as well as the distribution and relationships among buildings, open space, infrastructure, transportation systems, and ecological spaces.

MMM approaches urban design with a deep understanding of national and international best practices, benefitting from the variety of perspectives provided by our industry experts and leading in-house, multidisciplinary practice. Urban design at MMM is interdisciplinary, incorporating the knowledge and practices of our landscape architecture and land use planning experts. Together, our team works on a range of projects with the objective of ensuring the effective integration of the public and private realms in the establishment of healthy and complete communities. Our urban design expertise includes:

  • Community design
  • Master planning
  • Streetscape design
  • Landscape architecture
  • Campus planning
  • Waterfront design
  • Urban design and architectural control guidelines
  • Transit-oriented development
  • Design review
  • Urban design briefs
  • Site development feasibility analysis

Our design capabilities range from broad-scale master planning to the fine detail of streetscapes, transit systems, plazas, parks, built form, and the multitude of elements affecting both the public and private realms. To do this, our urban design team collaborates, communicates, and engages with the communities, groups, and people who will use the space, to help ensure our plans and design enrich the quality of people’s lives.
