At the upcoming Urban Ecologies Conference presented by OCAD University’s Faculty of Design, and sponsored by TD Bank, MMM’s Ian Gray, Senior Landscape Architect, will be moderating the panel on Urban Ecology and Economy.
Panelists include Brian DePratto, TD chief economist and Harold Madi, Head of Urban Design, City of Toronto. They will be discussing their visions on what the “ideal alternative” urban environment could be. Basing their presentations on urban design and planning tools, economic systems, risk management criteria, and engineering approaches that we have depended on up until now to shape our cities, and how this may be hindering us to achieve a truly sustainable urban ecology, or instead creating “problems of organized complexity”.
Urban Ecologies 2015 will break down the steps required for our cities to move beyond just sustainability to becoming producers of energy and resources, learning how to challenge today’s economic, political, and social frameworks that build our urban infrastructure and environment.
The conference will be taking place June 17 -19 at the Art Gallery of Ontario, in Toronto.
