Appleby Line / CNR Grade Separation

  • Appleby Line is a major north-south, four-lane arterial roadway which intersects with two main-line railway tracks carrying Canadian National Railway (CNR) freight traffic
  • MMM Group provided a class environmental assessment and preliminary and detailed design for a new grade separation of Appleby Line and CNR Halton sub-division
  • A two-span continuous post-tensioned railway structure was designed and constructed on a significant skew angle, with pedestrian tunnels on each side
  • The project included a four-lane road detour, a two-main-line CNR track detour, a new pumping station to handle storm drainage, the replacement of two culvert crossings of Appleby Line, and major road alignment and reconstruction
  • MMM was subsequently retained for contract administration and construction supervision services
