Hanlan Feedermain and Watermain

  • Under the Hanlan Water Project, MMM Group Limited provided project management services for the Hanlan Feedermain and Mississauga City Centre Watermain, at the time of construction one of the largest and most extensive infrastructure projects completed by the Region of Peel
  • The watermains were installed via a mix of long, deep tunnels and shallow open-cut sections through a heavily urbanized and industrial area, including tunneled installations underneath ten bridge structures at the interchange of Highways 401 and 403
  • The project included the design of approximately 3.5 km of 300-mm- and 400-mm-diameter local distribution mains
  • MMM also provided route finalization, identification of property requirements, detailed design, and construction services for the northern third of the Hanlan Feedermain, a 10-km, 2100-mm-diameter main that runs from the Lakeview Water Plant to Burnhamthorpe Road
  • Construction techniques included tunnels under roadways, an open trench through the park, and deep vertical trenches on residential roadways
  • A unique aspect of the assignment was the requirement to design the feedermain and chambers for two alternative pipe materials – concrete pressure pipe and concrete-encased welded steel pipe. The latter alternative entailed back-to-basics principles, pipeline analyses, and developing new standard details for the alternative
