Irvine River Bridge

  • Due to the bridge’s poor structural condition and functional deficiencies, a study was conducted in accordance with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process
  • Conducted a detailed evaluation of the existing masonry pier for this 1921, two-span concrete spandrel arch bridge
  • Developed a unique design featuring a conventional two-span precast, side-by-side slab structure, with independent precast spandrel arches beneath the slabs
  • The preferred solution was a new bridge, with a similar appearance to the existing one, including retention and restoration of the existing heritage pier in recognition of its significant heritage and aesthetic importance
