Windermere Bulk Water Study

  • MMM Group was retained by the Regional District of East Kootenay to examine the feasibility of purchasing treated water in bulk from the Windermere Water and Sewer Company Inc. (WWSC) to supply potable water to the community of Windermere
  • The existing treatment and distribution system treated the raw water by chlorination only, and did not meet the B.C. Interior Health Region’s 4-3-21-0 Treatment Objectives
  • The distribution system was also unable to meet the fire flow requirement as set out by the Regional District of East Kootenay’s Subdivision Servicing Bylaw No. 1954
  • MMM determined that receiving bulk water from WWSC would significantly increase the quality of water supplied to Windermere and ensure that Interior Health’s Treatment Objectives are met
  • MMM evaluated options to upgrade the water distribution system, including installing new piping systems to connect to the existing WWSC reservoir, upgrading the pipe sizes to improve fire flow, provision of individual pressure reducing valves (PRV) at select homes, and provision of four PRV chambers to control pressures
