On September 20 and 21, MMM Group Kelowna team members Grant Russouw, Davin Shillong, Sean Wren, and former team member Bob Evans of the Kelowna office squeezed into skin-tight bike shorts and jerseys and participated in the ‘Lake2Lake for Rwanda’ charity cycling event.
Over the course of two days, Grant, Davin, Sean, and Bob each cycled 225 km from Kalamalka Lake to Shuswap Lake and back in BC’s Okanagan Valley.
The ride was extremely challenging. We faced multiple steep hill climbs, mechanical issues, black bears (yes…real black bears), and incredibly sore derrières. But this was all quickly forgotten in the company of new friends, great weather, spectacular scenery, comfortable accommodations, complimentary massages, live evening entertainment, delicious food, and the privilege of helping children.
Raising nearly $7,000, ‘Team MMM Group’ was one of the top three fundraisers. The event resulted in a grand total of $60,000 raised for the Wellspring Foundation for Education. The Foundation uses funds raised to work with Rwandans to educate and empower a new generation of children. Since 2004, Wellspring has offered training to hundreds of teachers, established a Professional Development Centre, developed a model school called the Wellspring Academy, supported the growth of the 800-member Association of Committed Teachers Rwanda, and launched an innovative solution for school transformation called Whole School Development.
