The inaugural York Region Bike Summit is taking place on November 19th in Vaughan City Hall. Themed Building Partnerships for a More Bike-Friendly Region, the event will be attended by regional police services, school boards, cycling and trails organizations, planners, designers, public health professionals, policy makers, and other community stakeholders and advocates.
Dave McLaughlin, Senior Project Manager – Transportation Planning, will be part of a breakout session on bike infrastructure, discussing What’s New in Cycling Facility Design in Ontario & York Region: Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 18: Cycling Facilities. Dave will speak about some of the new cycling facility design guidelines identified in OTM Book 18, and will provide examples of recently implemented projects that demonstrate application of the guidelines. His presentation will also include a a few highlights from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario’s (MTO) new Bikeways Design Manual, that is based on similar design guideline principles as OTM Book 18, but intended for provincial highway planners and engineers.
Dave, a co-author of OTM Book 18 and the MTO Bikeways Design Manual, is one of MMM’s leading national specialists in Complete Streets and Sustainable and Active Transportation Planning and Facility Design, with more than 23 years of experience in the transportation and land use planning fields.
